Nano Particle Size Analyzer
Nano-particle-size analyzers examine particle size and size distribution, formulation stability, and — on some platforms — zeta potential and particle concentration. Technology choice should depend on sample type, size range, concentration, polydispersity, need for particle-by-particle measurement, and zeta-potential requirements. DLS and NTA are complementary technologies and should not be presented as two names for the same technique.

DLS
Dynamic light scattering calculates the hydrodynamic size of particles in suspension from Brownian motion. The Malvern Panalytical Zetasizer Ultra (size range ~0.3 nm–15 µm, sample volume down to 3 µL) and Anton Paar Litesizer DLS (similar range, multi-angle/MAPS capability) are the two current reference platforms.
NTA
Nanoparticle tracking analysis observes and tracks individual particles during Brownian motion. The Malvern Panalytical NanoSight Pro supports an official size range of 10–1000 nm, a concentration range of 10⁶–10⁹ particles/mL, and a minimum sample volume of 250 µL (with the low-volume flow cell), suited to extracellular vesicles and viral vectors.
Particle Size + Zeta Potential
For systems that, beyond particle size, examine surface charge/electrokinetic behavior via zeta potential. The Malvern Zetasizer Ultra/Pro and Anton Paar Litesizer (in cmPALS-equipped configurations) are the reference platforms; the zeta-potential value depends on the medium, pH, ionic strength, and temperature.
