Biological Safety Cabinets
A biological safety cabinet (BSC) is a primary-containment device for safely working with biological agents or samples that may generate bioaerosols, used in microbiology, molecular biology, cell culture, pharmaceutical microbial QC, and clinical/research labs. Class II is the most common type in many labs. A laminar-flow clean bench is not the same as a BSC — a clean bench mainly protects the product and is not a substitute for a BSC when infectious agents are involved.
Applications
- Microbiology and molecular biology
- Cell culture
- Pharmaceutical microbial QC
- Clinical and research laboratories
Selection Criteria
- Class type (most common: Class II) based on the biological agent and biosafety level
- A laminar-flow clean bench is not a substitute for a BSC when infectious agents are involved.
